At one time I think every man and his dog headed to the seaside towns for their summer break - until the growth in cheap holiday accommodation abroad dented their popularity. But recent studies suggest a dramatic growth in jobs over several decades shows that seaside holidays are very much back in vogue. I believe the enduring popularity of this great British institution lies in our subconscious desire to be beside the seaside.
There is definitely an instinctive pull towards the seaside, and has been for hundreds of years, which is why the seaside is so popular among those who like to live by it and enjoy it, hence the reason Pure Cornwall got in to the Holiday homes for sale market and it so popular that I believe people come back to live by the sea because they usually have such happy memories of their UK holidays.
There is also a tradition of a great love of the seaside and seaside towns among people of this country and other European countries, which is why the resorts developed in the first place. The British love affair with the sea is not new the coastal boom began with the onset of the industrial revolution, which in turn sparked off the concept of the holiday.
But Britain's seaside towns took a dip 20 years ago as a result of our appetite for foreign package holidays..
I think there was a time was a time when you were getting better quality accommodation abroad, but I don't believe that any more. This reflected in many of the luxury Holiday cottages throughout the UK that get booked every year in recent times
